  1. Below is a list of the photos that we did and why we did them the way we did them. I'm especially proud of a few things: 1) The quality of the production. I'm adding a link to the a folder that contains high def photos. If you zoom in you can really see the level of love & detail that was put into this calendar. 2) The December concept: we were running out of ideas (remember there were only 8 approved costumes back then) and rather than putting in filler, I had the concept of "looking back" like a high school yearbook. We solicited photos from troops that people attended, and I think the end result was an excellent job of putting them together beautifully to convey the joys of trooping with friends. 3) Not only did we want only the best costumes to represent the Legion, but we also wanted to showcase members from around the globe vs. just US based. 4) The back cover: we were able to get in every single person who made EI and Centurion, plus all the Achievement Award recipients, plus all the staff. I felt it was important to capture this moment in history for posterity. 5 years was a very big milestone at the time, considering how humble the detachment started. January: ANH (Jesse McClear, TK 4702, Great Lakes Garrison) February: ESB (Paul Hoeffer, TK 8020, Garrison Titan) March: Blasters (E-11 by TK 4702, SE-14R by Daetrin TK 8020) April: ROTJ (Alan Quick, TK 3066, Cloud City Garrison) May: HWT (Juan Morales, TK 4326, Puerto Rico Garrison) June: TKC (William Soltys, TK 6107, Badlands Garrison - Canada) July: INC (Steve Marle, TK 3862, French Garrison) August: BFGs (DLT-19 & Lewis Gun) September: Helmets, ANH, ROTJ, ESB October: DEATH (Brian Anderson, TK 7602, New England Garrison) November: SKY (Mason Carson, TK 4603, Great Lakes Garrison) December: High school yearbook concept, looking back at 5 years of FISD Link to a OneDrive folder with all the goodies: 2011 Calendar
  2. When it came to how the belt was allowed to look on the armor, it was OK if it wasn't perfectly horizontal or aligned, as there were numerous screenshots like the one below, where it wasn't perfect and certainly there are shots in the Tantive IV which show that the gap between the butt and kidney is not occluded. Is that still the case, or are GMLs no longer saying this is fine?

Funny thing about that, Terrel Reber (SuperTrooper, RIP) noted once that his son could always pick him out due to how he rested his hands on his belt in a lineup, and I found that mine could do the same. I guess we each have our own "tell" in how we stand.
  4. Cool. I can post more detailed pix though if needed, esp. the last pages.
  5. Do you guys need me to take photos of the old calendar & post, or do we still have the old artwork where some people can see what was done?
  6. fs, should be started about mid-year as you need time to do all the layout and then have them ready before the end of the calendar year so people can buy them as Christmas gifts.
  7. From when I had more hair, and less wrinkles. And it still fits, if you can believe it.
  8. OneDrive has this cool feature where you can see "pix from this day in history" type of thing. Today it regurgitated one of the few times I got to wear a Vader. Not mine, but one of my garrison mate's. I have to say if you've never done a Vader, it's kinda tiring. That shoulder armor starts getting heavy after and hour, and having to keep your posture perfect, etc. is much more tiring that being a TK. Still, it's a huge amount of fun.
  9. Sigh, makes me wish we'd do another calendar here. Still have my FISD calendar, and it's still amazingly good.
  10. Wowza, that is pretty cool!
  11. Hey Kira - I'm in Garrison Titan too and Seattle based. Do get on the Garrison Boards or Discord - they are a helpful bunch. Your first contact should be the GMLs who can help you with all the resources in getting approved, as they are the ones doing approval. As others have pointed out, do quite a bit of research. I also suggest attending a few troops first and seeing the various makes in person before ordering.
  12. I'm blown away by the amount of detail that you put into this Joseph. I'm going to go back and read through the thread a second time to ensure I'm getting it all. Had I known just how much work it would have taken to complete it, I may have been reluctant to send it to you without sending in detailed photos first. I'm relieved that it was able to be a source of distraction during a hardship. The details you included I think the casual observer may not notice from more than a few feet away, however the mind works in mysterious ways and I believe that the net effect of all these details is something they would pick up on. It has certainly found a better home than any I could have provided, and am glad that it can be a source of pride and comfort. It is truly a remarkable re-construction that you have accomplished.
  13. Getting closer. This is Stable Diffusion. This is Bing It would be nice if I could say "Using this image as base, make these changes..."
  14. Hey everyone, I'm trying to get Midjourney to create a picture for me of a person in stormtrooper armor jousting on a horse and not getting much success. Any Midjourney experts out there who can do better? Or, can introduce me to a good way to do this in Stable Diffusion? I started out with this: a star wars stormtrooper jousting on a horse Didn't get what I want. I used ChatGPT to try to help, but ended with something I think was way too much. Picture a medieval jousting tournament where two skilled contenders prepare for a clash of lances and honor. In the left corner of the bustling tournament grounds stands a figure bedecked in the authentic stormtrooper armor seen in Star Wars Episode 4 (A New Hope). This unique twist adds a touch of sci-fi to the historical scene. Mounted upon a powerful black horse, the stormtrooper-clad rider brandishes a jet-black lance, poised for action. Their opponent, on the right, epitomizes the gallant knights of yore. Outfitted in traditional chainmail and armed with a shield, they proudly display an orange tabard, symbolizing their noble house. Atop a majestic white steed, the knight exudes a sense of chivalry. The pictures came out like this (best) But most were just plain wrong like this: Stable Diffusion is getting a bit better on the first go Will keep playing with it, but I'd love to see how others solve this and what they come up with. Points for cool images as well.
  15. Back in the day when it was just LFL, the "agreement" was that LFL would say nothing so long as we didn't make any profit off of his IP. That is why we can not take any money from trooping, and in theory all armor/props must be sold at cost.
  16. That is what this forum is all about Dale, and I'm glad you had a good experience. Do you know why I created this forum? It was because back in 2005 when I joined there was *no* transparency at all. There was no forum, no Facebook, and certainly *noone* talked openly about armor. When you were new the answer was "I know a guy" or you took your risks on Ebay, paying ~$1500 for FX armor (which is how I started). Only when you got in did you get access to the Legion Yahoo group, or your local garrison, who would give you more information. "Is that armor recast?" "Hey man, why are you asking so many questions!" was the answer. Having even this page where anyone could read it was novel and we got a lot of pushback about doing so. Thankfully I was new to the Legion and just kept pushing forward, and was surrounded by a core team of like minded people. Yes, this type of transparency is now normal and expected, but at one point it would have been considered heretical.

Also, note that these are all for fun. I hope no one who sees these will misunderstand or get their nose out of joint.

Right with you on nomex. I use the rubber gloves only for serious troops where I need all the accuracy I can get. Otherwise, it's comfort time.
