  1. Steve is right. Just eyeball it. I asked him tons of questions before I took the step. I'd like to cut more off, but I don't think it would be wise. Overall, I'm happy with how the ears turned out. I was thinking of cutting down the ear caps as they seem too rounded, but I'll leave them. The only thing I will be doing is getting ride of the seam around the ear cap and ear section. Make it one smooth piece like the original (See my thread for my progress aka..butcher job). Pretty easy mod, just take your time and measure a few times. DD.
  2. Some more progress pictures. Here is my sloppy use of epoxy. After sanding a bit on the frown seam Ear back on showing bolts holding it in place. Noticed that the ear cap does not truly conform, so I may have to heat and bend it a bit. Otherwise, so far so good. More sanding and then some bondo spot puddy. Next is the filing the frown.
  3. Good job. I was going to do something with sintra, glue it though.
  4. Yah, thought about that as well. There is a little excess that COULD be heated and bent. I tried the epoxy and it didn't really work. It would be way to flimsy. I don't think its something I need to worry about. I'll just get an AP or more accurate bucket down the road. As for the frown. Yup, on the list. Just need to find the files to do it right. So much to do... Here a nice Oops. Actually helped me to take the ear cap off, but damn. I missed the centre post and had to chip away at the post with a small screwdriver. That worked, but was a lot more work. I'll just have to epoxy it up and blend it in, shouldn't be a problem.
  5. Pretty sweet. What did you use as the frame? I'm working on the speaker system then I'll try and cramp the fan in there.
  6. What brand of knee-pads did you use for the liner? Looks real nice.
  7. Well. Started the MR CE mod this weekend. Ripped the rubber brow and neck seals off. Dremelled off the aerators and the dreaded ear mod was completed. The Before The After I think the left ear is slightly larger than the right. Might change it, might not. Opinions? The next thing I'm going to try and tackle is making the left eye more like the original ANH bucket - i.e. the eye bump. I have this modeling epoxy which might prove good for this. Will try it out and see what happens. More pics as I progress. DD.
  8. I was trying to get a hold of them the other day to find that out. If not, I'll have a cousin in NY mail it over to me. That's for the link!
  9. Okay. Ripped everything off, aerators, brow/neck rubber, lens, and finally the ear pieces (that was HELL!). I'll post some pics soon. Next step is filling in the seams.
  10. Hey Tony. Thanks. Starting the tear down this weekend. Got some Milliput for the seams (went to the local hobby shop and the guys said this is better than the squadron putty). So, I'll be dremeling the HOVI's off (waiting for yours ), attempting the ears. A little confused at how much to take off the back if any. I'll have some progress pics when I'm doing this. Should prove interesting! Cheers. DD.
  11. I slowly just came to realize that myself yesterday. I bought a voice amp from The Source and it's condenser mic worked fine on the unit, once I daisy chained the FX module to it, it didn't. Now I just need to find a powered mic locally. I'm going to start the tear down this weekend and fix all the seams. Thanks Craig.. DD.
  12. I have the FX static burst module. I suppose in conjunction with that it would work, but not going to dish out $120. I might just end up getting that one in the For Sale section for $70 if this doesn't work out.
  13. Not having any luck. I bought a little lapel clip condenser mic, tried that with this rig and nothing. Very strange, I can hear the mode speech (very low), but I can't get any of the mics to work! The only mic that seems to get a response is the Dynamic DJ mic, but I have to eat it before I can get anything out of it. This amp board I bought seems to be a pre-amp. Could that be the problem? I don't know enough about this, but for this to work do I need to daisy chain the FX board -> pre-amp -> amp -> speakers? Does anyone have the Amp from Trik Toys? It looks to be the radio shack one. Can the guts of that be ripped out and installed into a helmet (minus the speaker)? This is becoming very annoying.
  14. You can really tell the difference in colour between the MR CE and the FX armour. I've heard it's only when caught on camera (flash), but its noticable. Might just have to paint the armour as well!
  15. Just me, or did Carrie Fisher look a little to comfortable with her husband?
  16. More interested in how you separated the ear cap. Doesn't look like you drilled out the centre stud. Did you just pry it apart. If so..what tools did you use?
  17. MR CE - plenty of room in the bell. Snout..enough room for a mic. Trying to find something very small. Might just get the Trik amp and pillage it for the board. I would like this to be all self-contained within the bucket. Just seems so much more authentic. I think I just wasted $15 with the amp board I bought. Oh well...live and learn. I'm stuck with the fans. Either they have to be very small or I have them riding my cheeks. Again not so comfortable with them that close to my nose. Sneeze and I'm done for. Hopefully more people with the CE will come forward with mod ideas.
  18. I'm going to attempt this for my son. Now that he knows I'm getting some armour, he wants his own. So I got a whole bunch of foam sheet from the local art shop and will attempt in the near future. Just need to find a decent helmet. Might go the same route and use the half-mask and MacGyver the back bell shape. TrooperMaster..you offering one of those up? I saw your original post.
  19. Seeing as I'm probably going to redo the whole helmet, I was looking at the same thing. BUT..I'm going to paint it further up on the slant to make it look more accurate. Not sure how it will look, but its an idea. I find the traps look too small and are off centre from the ears.
  20. Did you take the guts out of the amp? Or did you manage to fit the amp box in your helmet? I don't have much room in my MR CE, so if I have to do that it will be pretty tight.
  21. Okay different question. Can the guts from the Radio Shack amp (or the Trik Toys Amp) be used within a TK bucket? Meaning, can I butcher that amp and make it work within my helmet with the aerator speakers?? Because I'm thinking it has to be the amp board I picked it. Just not mean to do this...which sucks because it only cost me $15.
  22. Hi. I need a little help. I got a Trik Toys Static Burst board and thought if I just got an amp board I could get it to work. Well it does..sort of. I've got a couple different mics, the one that works is a DJ style mic (Sony F-V5Omuni-Directional Dynamic mic). I really have to speak loud into it to have it activate the Trik board, when it does pick up, the static burst works great. I've just now tried a lapel mic (The Source by Circuit City aka Radio Shack lite - damn you Radio shack from pulling out of Canada!) which doesn't even pick up. Question One: Do I need a dynamic mic for this setup? Question Two: I thought every mic was dynamic? Question Three: if its a power issue, wouldn't the 9v I have on the Trik board be enough to power the mic as well? (1.5 volts at most??) A little confused because I thought it was a pretty simple setup.
  23. Not sure if I can advert it, but I found a store in Downsview (Toronto - Canada) which sells the 2oz or 8oz bottles. Didn't get pricing yet, but I'm assuming this is good new for Canadian troops. Its called Plastic World. I'm excited. DD.
  24. So you have the ear screws punch through to the inside of the lid? I was thinking this as well. I have the outlet cover screws, which are small, but I'm sure I can find #6 or whatever that could come straight through to the inside of the lid. I think I'll start with the decals and work my way up. I just got my amp board from a local hobby electrical shop, so I'm doing a few things at once. On to something entirely else. The aerator mic tips. What is holding them on? Glue? I'm tring to find train speakers, but no luck locally so I'll have to get them from Scott M (?? - can't remember if he sells them). Anyway. Can I just pull them off with some pressure or are they attached via some type of connection like the ear pieces? DD.
  25. I'm assuming that when the large section in front is cut, it will lean in slightly? Because the back portion is a higher elevation then the front section (thus the front is a larger section). So I stop cutting once the radius stops? I didn't think this bucket would be so tight. Adding in my fans and mic system might prove to be a challenge! DD.
