  1. TK 6306 reporting for duty and requesting access. http://501st.com/members/displaymemberdetails.php?userID=7464
  2. looks very doable to scratch-build. For the main body, 1/4" ABS plastic sheets (or 1/8" in some areas?), good saw to cut with, belt sander, portable sanders, dremel with various stone grinder and sanding pieces. Screws, nuts, and/or glue to put everything together. For the jetpack's cylinder, plumbing parts like large PVC piping, gaskets, large O-rings. ABS paste, putty, or some other comparable filler to fill in the seams. Use plastic or metal brackets to attach to the backplate. Looks like it could weigh about 4-8 lbs roughly. If doing a ROTJ version from BF2, the chestbox could be mounted different ways - back panel with screws, magnets, velcro, etc. Strong interior straps to support these additional components. Good measurements and proportions are key. Look like a fun prop to make!
  3. You got time on your hands to learn a great deal then before you turn 18 years old. Age doesn't preclude you from buying some good quality armor. For Clone, I recommend OSCS. It's the most accurate. You can still be involved in 501st and not be 18 years old, .e.g. being on this forum and reading the experiences of others, joining the Galactic Academy for youth. Ask your local unit if you could be involved in other ways, e.g. attending armor-building gatherings (parental permission required of course) and see firsthand the armor you might acquire. You can learn a great deal from official 501st members. Have a lot of fun.
  4. i don't think it's possible to spend only $400 on FO full armor. Non-canon costumes are just as fun to build though! Tried Mando mercs or BHG for more info.?
  5. welcome! I'm not sure I understand your questions. Do you want stormtrooper or clone armor? Do you want to just purchase an armor kit and construct your armor? Or do you want to build from the ground-up by creating molds, then casting? Or scratch-building from raw plastic/fiberglass materials?
  6. try not to discard any of the cut plastic, especially the ABS filings and small pieces. You can make ABS paste with acetone as a method to fix mistakes. And the color of the paste should match your armor.
  7. i sweat, therefore I am. Don't get into any character per say. I just do what the client and patrons want of me. For me, Just standing next to the trooper(s) beside me, i.e. a charity event, there's espirit de corps there. That's enough for me.
  8. Gotta relish those moments in time! It sorta reminds me of the time I heard, met, spoke with, and shook the hand of Irvin Kirshner at an Old Dominion University's film festival in 2007. Not many people showed up to listen to him. It was an intimate setting. Goosebumps just thinking about it!!
  9. maybe reinforce the break on the shin's underside with ABS paste?
  10. Great idea. I was a GML many years ago and asked Detachments for advice a lot. If a prospective member submitted an app and noted it was "FISD approved", I wouldn't hesitate to approve him on the spot. It would have saved me a whole lotta time.
  11. As a #2 in this SW trilogy, I walked out of the theatre (2x) a bit more satisfied compared to my experience in TFA. I rewatched TFA a few days ago, and I have an improved appreciation for it. My 11-year old daughter loves the new SW, so why fight it?
  12. If you can demonstrate to the detachment officers and/or GML with photo sources ("rule of 3" I guess applies) of a variation of the stripes, you should be good to go. CRL would be appropriately amended by the detachment I would think.
  13. took me eight years myself to start a TK after my first post in this forum. No rush.. WElcome and have fun!
  14. Yes, with elastic straps, attach bicep underside to the bells' underside shoulder area. The straps should not show at all. What I'm doing is gluing male snaps/fasterners to the underside of the handshell and use female-side of snaps attached to elastic straps to wrap around the hand. proportionally speaking, your TK looks darn good!
