im using FF3 and it works fine for me also

It dawned on me this morning that another option for gloves could be BMX racing gloves. They are not particularly accurate, but since i was into BMX for years, it dawned on me that this type of glove could be used. they are made ventilated, as they are supposed to be for grip not for warmth, so the heat factor would be very low. They are also only 22 bucks, which isnt bad at all.The only thing that may not work well is they do not come with a longer wrist area, but if your undersuit is long enough on the arms, i think these would be perfect. I may actually get a pair. Here is a link to one place that has these. This particular pair is the only one on the site right now i think would be usable as they are all black, but i know there are others. heres the link to them on Dans Comp.com: TROOPER GLOVES

this is an absolutely awesome bucket! i kinda like the idealized versions as im sure if it was possible, that is how the movie suits/helmets would have been. i like the overall look to be screen accurate, like the asymetry, but not necissarily every little bump n dimple. on screen they looked better than they did in person anyway im sure. This is a nice looking helmet and id be tempted to get one if i wasnt about to start a bikerscout!

Yea i noticed with the AP you can only tilt it so far back, and that makes the brow about even with the brow on the faceplate. I trimmed a tad bit off to get mine where i wanted it. (as you can see in my avatar)Just very little though. When i did me VT(TE recast) i didnt have that problem and was able to tilt it further back.

How Many ohms?
Darth Voorhees replied to Darth Voorhees's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
haha! thanks! -
If i want to hook up a regular speaker to my triktoys amp, to mount into my chestplate, does anyone know what ohm speaker i should be getting? Ivr decided i just dont like the mic tip speakers. I get too much feedback and cant make it loud enough for anyone to hear me, so im switching to the "out of hemet" system.

Sorry i havent been posting guys...i have been doing work and taking pics most of the way through, i will try and update here in the next few days. Im trying to have this done before the end of next week, so im crunchin! I pretty much have everything glued, and am applying the velcro to the backs of the shins and the biceps, although i may just glue the biceps. Im am preparing to start adding the snap and clip buckle strapping system in the next day or so... stay tuned, updates soon! -

Ya know, your absolutely correct, i completely forgot about that..... it is now fixed! thanks for that. So i have one Thigh complete now aside from trimming the extra front strip off the top. Im not really liking the bond of the epoxy im using, so im going to run to the hardware store and pick up some plastic welder. As long as they have it, i will continue on today, and post pics tonight. My plan is to have everything glued, and the shins and fore arms glued/velcroed by tonight. So i can start on the strapping during the week, and by next weekend i can finish the strapping and be done! ....thats the plan -

Ok, so here we are at 1:40PM... Ive now trimmed the legs.... What im doing now to save time, since im trying to have this set up done by our Toys r us midnight madness troop July 26th, is i hav started assembling one of the thighs. While the glue sets, i post this up, and then go trim some more parts... So first we need to cut a strip of ABS 7/8" wide, by however long the front of your thigh pieces are, in this case 15". Then we mark off aprox half the width of the front stip on half of the thigh piece.(we do this to both halves) then we trim and sand... And also sand the back of the strip to be glued. Be sure to wipe the excess dust oiff both pieces before gluing to get a strong bond! Then we mix the Glue. Im using Elmers fast set epoxy, which ive used before with no problems. Altho ive never actually assembled armor with it, i did test it on 2 pieces of ABS and it seems to hold well. I also recommend Devcon Plastic welder, as ive used that on my FX armor and its held up great so far. Then we place the strip on the outside of one side of the thigh, clamp and let set. Once that sets, you will be able to glue the other side onto the lip you created. I will most likely add some ABS pieces on the inside to further strengthen the bond. More later! -

thanks guys! gotta run a few errands this morning and then back to it i go! I think this thread will get more interesting once i start doing the strapping set up. Since now i know what works for me from my experience with the FX kit, i have a good game plan involving very little velcro and the rest all plastic clip buckles and snaps. Im probably just gonna trim as much as i can when i get back, rather than stop to show pieces rough trimmed..it'll get kinda monotonus lol. Im also assembling the thighs, calves and forearms and hopefully the biceps, the way it was done in ANH. Instead of just laying one side over the other on the middle strip, both sides will be trimmed to half the width of that front strip on the calf/thigh, butted together and another strip of ABS will be used as the strip to cover the seam. It will take a little longer, but will look better. Im also planning on reinforcing it further by putting a strip of ABS on the inside as well. just have to see how far i can stretch the ABS strips given with the Kit. I may end up doing the Bi-ceps the regualr way as they are less noticeable than the fronts of the thighs and calves. ANYWHO...off to run errands and get started today....stay tuned! -

OK! We now have the ab, kidney, butt, chest and back trimmed! What i am doing is scoring it with the dremel and then making a second pass over the initial score, and then the third pass(one more pass haha), i cut it all the way through. Im pretty good with a dremel as ive used it countless times to do fiberglass Friday the 13th hockey masks and Vader helmets. Since i have like no life, i will probably work on this all weekend only taking breaks to eat, so hopefully ill get alot done! Ok to the pics....here is the rough trim of the ab plate Finished Ab and Kidney/butt Starting the Chest... Completed chest.. And the completed back... Some of the pieces will need some minor fine tuning still, but for the most part these pieces are done...more tomorrow! -
Well i just figured id start a fresh new thread for my build so if anyone ever uses it for reference, they dont have to scroll through 2 pages before the actual building begins lol SO...here is pic #1...fresh out of the box... I am starting with trimming the ab and kidney/but plates right now....stay tuned....

Yes indeed, it has arrived! Ive also already received my canvas belt from Gundamzeppelin, snaps, elastic, and those plastic clip/buckles. Its great knowing a little already going into this. The FX kit was a great kit to start with. Now i know exactly how i want to set up my strapping and how and where i can trim it down to fit my height. I will be trimming some parts starting tomorrow when i get home from work, and hopefully finishing up all the trimming this weekend since im pretty sure ill be home doing nothing all weekend. Progress pics to follow! I'm very excited!

FX chest plate mod
Darth Voorhees replied to Darth Voorhees's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
ya know i was thinking about the standard iron also, but it would be very hard to control and way bigger than youd need. What i did was i cut off a little on each side/bottom edge. i drew a line with a china marker (grease pencil) to mark where it looked right to me and just cut those little bits off leaving a bit extra on there to make for the return edge. The middle is pretty much how it was, didnt touch that, its just the sides. Im not sure exactly what amount i cut as i just drew lines until it looked right to me. Id say it was around an inch on each side. thats guestimating -

Darth Voorhees replied to TK-4510's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
AP, nice i should have mine in a few days....Heh, looks good though, but i know what ya mean, 160 is where id like to be myself lol. Got any methods on how to drop the weight, cuz i cant seem to do it lol AA++ on the armor tho bro, looks great! -
How do you do invisible shims???
Darth Voorhees replied to TK-8687's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
i thought invisable shims are more like doing a seemless assembly. Like basically adding the shim flush to the edge of the plastic, to "extend" it, and then putting a support piece of ABS on the inside and then filling the seem on the outside.... Am i being clear ?...sometime i dont know if i am...haha But yea i thought an invisbale shim was something along those lines -
Ah the ol Rubies...dont waste your money on that. Even though the FX is huge and not so accurate, its better than that one! that one is really bad! Id go with a headless FX armor kit, and maybe an AP "flawed" helmet. Thats what i got. it was 100 bucks cheaper than the regular one, and i still cant really find anything wrong with it. lol. If you do have the money, the TE2 or AP would be your best choices. If you need contact info for either just PM me. You could also go the route of the MR CE, which isnt too expensive, and with a few mods is pretty decent looking.
