  1. It's such a shame as I imagine the satisfaction of constructing your own armour must feel great and very rewarding.

It is mate - however the creative genius goes to TM....he just supplies us with a model kit to assemble.

Now I understand it's daunting!! I was the kid at school who they never allowed to colour the pictures in 'cos I was sooo messy lol.

When I started I thought exactly the same - however now I can build most stuff with confidence....hell buy me a beer & I'll build yours lol!!

Putting a TM together is as tricky as doing a 'paint-by-numbers' drawing. Take your time......follow instruction......have the tools to do the job.

Two things...put the word out on the UKG site for local troopers to help & build so you can get your hands dirty...........one thing I learned is that you can't be scared of the kit as you'll be constantly tweaking & repairing it as time goes by......

  2. In my experience, you have the build for a TM & RS but possibly not the height but in my experience you would have a better fit with RS.

In addition they are a one-stop-shop for everything you need which is another carrot to your donkey.

In my humble (compared to my peers on this site) opinion the only suit I'd say for sure is a go-er would be the RT-Mod (http://www.rt-mod.com/), especially as it's endorsed by our attachment leader who is a similar height to yourself.

However, I've heard there is a long wait........although one just sold on the UKG site & I saw one on here yesterday too. Oh and you'd also get hit with customs as it's sourced outside blighty.

To be honest mate I'm just talking about my experiences - I know my stuff, but the guys you spoke to on Sunday are gurus!! They will sort you out I'm sure.

  3. It's back up now ;)

Firstly - awesome pix mate brilliant!!

So - my TM......do not get me wrong, this suit was 95% awesome.....but to get so near to perfection without actually achieving it bugged me. On troops I found myself constantly pushing my lid down & looking at my reflection. Notice the high lid (this is without any padding) and biceps at the bottom of the bells (rather than being firmly tucked under).

Now my RS.....don't get me wrong I'm pretty much on the cusp here but the fit looks so much better.

Just food for thought mate.....oh & by the way.....my wedding last August!!

    W2.jpg

.......& no that's the bride's father (Bill) not me lol!!

  4. Hey Scott - TM is brilliant stuff, but I'm 6'2" & wasn't keen on the fit.

The legs will be fine bit I found the biceps didn't reall fit under the shoulder bells and the helmet, ebven without all the padding didn't extend to my chest and left a gap - especially at the back.

I changed over to RS (as we chatted) and am very happy with the fit.

Unfortunately photobucket is down for maintenance so I can't post pictures explaining myself......but I'd advise on the RS due to my experiences.

  5. Def understand there are better choices, but for $600 fully assembled with helmet and accessories it seemed like a "deal".

It's how I started out mate....then you'll dip your toe in, next the foot.....& here I am 2 years later in my 3rd TK kit lol.

........I'll never forget the first time I put on that FX and walked into the public domain..10 FEET TALL!!

Do what you feel - it's all kit, it can be tampered with, sold on, etc.

  6. Hey all - I was just poncing around in my new RS this weekend and the calves kept migrating up & over the top of my chelsea boot!!

I've tabbed velcro to the boots & bottomd of the shind but I'm not sure how it'll stand up to trooping......& it's a big weekender in Birmingham coming up?

Any better ideas than my poxy velcro?

  7. STOP THAT BUILD!!!!!!

The forearms...all the detail is at the top. Line up from there and then just trim the bottoms.

Also the left thigh is a muddy-funster - on the bottom lip but at the top of the rim, line up the top of the 'triangle' front/centre. It will look crackers with odd bits at the top & bottom. The bottom will be covered bt the battery pack & you can cover the top to an extent wirh a strip.....it is accurate though.

If in doubt talk to Rob & Si

when I do make a helmet I was leaning more towards this style. Because 3 other people have made the more common looking helmet. I think I might be able to do a Vac-form version of this style. I do not think GG got their helmet right. This is what I think I see when looking a the sketch work.

I changed the angel on the back to make it look a little more like the ANH helmets to help the two parts flow together better. GG made the center nose area look like a flat round disc. I think it looks like a protruding filter. And the mouth grill I think is not perfectly round. I think it should be sort of shaped like the mouth of Leia's Boush helmet or more like the front grill of a 1932 Ford truck.

I'm soooooooo please you've gone for this version - awsome bucket & in my opinion the pick of the bunch!! Different to the otheres & what we have now :D DEFO future purchase!!!

As for the assembly - I'll leave this for the more experienced to comment on...........but the yoke over the collar bone and solid look give it a real armour feel..love it!!

  9. Pete - that's alot of scaffold.

Could the light, non load-bearing pieces (top of the cod & ab sections) be attached to the undersuit directly a la bikerscout? Either by poppers or velcro? It might 'ride' better.

Additionally Kevin will there be a section at the central lower back to attach the top of the butt or will it be fixed directly to the belt?

I am strongly considering doing this project but would like to get some feed back to know if others would desire a set of this armor?

    SIZE:

I would scale it to fit a standard movie derived Stormtrooper set. I am 5'10 and 170 lbs. Standard Stormtrooper size, so I've been told.

IMPORTANT: Because of the design this will be very limited on sizing. It will not fit a large range of different sized people. I will most likely utilize my "Connection Flanges" in the sculpt to help with the ease of assembly like I have done with my Animated Series Clone Armor kits.

    TIME FRAME:

That would give me about 5 months tops to do it, on top of the other stuff I make and only leave those who want this to wear at Cel Eurpoe about 1 month to assemble it. Give or take because of shipping time.

But I would continue to make a few more kits after Cel E. for anyone else that would want them.

    HELMET:

    x3

Kevin - interested? absolutely! I think most people will be. I've bought & built your kit before & it's fantastic. I doubt I can contribute too much on the details & build of this but it's great to see the brainstorming.

Size - again I agree, being 6'3" I maybe out of the range a little but an ideal template is the TKs we have now in my opinion

    Timeframe: Whenever it gets done

Helmet: All are good although this one reminds me a little of my inflatable companion, Martha

  11. The same can be seen on the inner parts as well. the right side part almost has no edge. These arrived like this. Normal with the RS kit? Or a bad batch

    Perfectly normal mate :duim:

I've just about finished the same build with the same kit but I'm lucky enough to be 30 mins away from the RS Studio so I've been down there a few times with queries.......this kit is very quirky & makes a TM assembly seem like paint by numbers lol!! The most enjoyable TK build I've done yet though.

Anyway, this PVC stuff will attract powder like a strip bar attracts stag dos - something to do with its charge  so don't bother cleaning until you've finished.....oh & it's a bit wierd to sand as well....almost cloggy & heats up quick. On the chest/back edges of the bells better to leave em long until you have the chest & back assembled & can fit them properly. With the Bell return edges they can be minimal - I dremmeled them down to no more than 5mm following the line of the bell.

As for the drop boxes - yep one or two are like that. I think again trim them off to 5mm from the top - trust me it works!!! Although drop Rob & Si an email to confirm it.

Just wait until you get to the arms!!!! Not to mention the craxy left thigh!!!! :icon_eek:

  12. Okay, I've always used poppers/fasteners to attach my kit together but this time I'm doing the spit 'n sawdust superglue as seen in these pics from a mate's armour below.

The question I'm asking is what is the best & safetest way to supergle elastic? Just how does one apply the pressure without the glue seeping through and glueing whatever you're using to apply the pressure???

Especially with regard to the tensioned strap shown below accross the bottom of the shoulder bell
