  1. Yes, it has been done. But the really good ones involves as much work and the same techniques as building a kit. Only difference is you'll be spending a lot more money, and still do the same work.
  2. Nice work guys!
  3. It won't ever be a perfect match since it's derived from an original helmet and those didn't line up very well either. But sure, just keep at it until you're happy, but don't worry too much about it.
  4. I'm thinking the gap you see here will be much less once you tighten the ears with screws.
  5. You won't go wrong with either the 2mm or the 1.5 mm. Same thing with the strapping. Both come with pros and cons. The 2 mm really feels like armour when you wear it, but the 1.5 might be slightly more durable but not as glossy. 1.5 mm turns out to be more like the original armours as well. Just go with either one you like best. If I'd do it again I'd go 1.5 mm and original strapping (got bitten by the accuracy bug), but at the same time my 2 mm with "new" strapping has held up for some heavy duty trooping and serves me perfect for that. I don't believe the 1.5 mm would do any worse, I just have no personal experience with it.
  6. I think that owning a Disney suit is pretty cool in itself. In the matter of armour, I thing the more sources and the clearer linage the better. So a modified Disney suit with ROTJ linage is better than a scratch build for example (when you're aiming at ROTJ). The amour itself might be ugly, but I think it's great that you got it and that it has potential. I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with it.
  7. They might be easy to assemble, but hardly easier than any other maker (given the extra trimming of excess plastic) is hard to assemble. And no, they will never be as screen accurate as TM or RS once you know what to look for. Which is part of the point, which we all have to learn to live with, or we'd all say FX was screen accurate. No armour can be 100% screen accurate, but TM and RS get it the closest.
  8. Where's the centurion application? You look awesome!
  9. Historically people have always been putting 2 small capacitors in between the bigger ones. This thread indicates there may be evidence that there actually were 3 of them. And yes, should you use these capacitors, the back plate should have those small holes. One hole per capacitor.
  10. And the crotch and ab snaps are pointing inwards (how else would you use them? ). The split rivet in the crotch should not be painted btw, nor any of the snaps.
  11. Well in the matter of using snaps or whatever here and there, I at least, try to do it as screen accurate as possible. It may be 30 year old methods, but they are certainly not "same old", as many of these things were not even generally known as little as a year or two ago. Some of these things are the results of leaked images from the LFL archives, others are the result of a lot of people doing a lot of research on the subject. Spending hours and hours trying to figure out what it really is they are seeing. I would not call that conservative. I would say that they are on the cutting edge of stormtrooper research. So the conservative and non-innovative things you speak of are rather those using velcro as an all-around solution. On this matter you may be completely right. Researching this turned out to be hopeless because of all the new-age stuff that comes up. Hardly reliable. Very much like those trying to prove the mobile phone radiation. However I'd still not recommend using powerful magnets where there's no need for them, and there are safer alternative. You can still get squeezed pretty tight by those magnets.
  12. I was referring to how non LFL costumes (ie fan made) looked like though, sculpt wise (not the strapping , materials or anything else). But whatever.
  13. I'd say in this case it's completely unrelated, since what was available before could be considered "broken".
  14. Don't forget there's iron in your blood, so keeping strong magnets close to your skin for extended periods could have some effect on you, I'm sure. If it's good or bad I don't know. But since it's such an unnatural thing to have, I guess it's not too good.
  15. Technically that one was for Vern who gave me a holster. So I still "owe" the community one.
  16. No you are not. There are armour makers that build their kits to your measurements for a fee. Or you can probably get help by your local garrison and have a armour party building it together. Have no fear.
  17. Rubbish armor. Get him to sign up here instead.
  18. Thanks John! You have been a great help in making this happen.
  19. Yeah I see nothing wrong with the biceps. If I had long enough arms I'd wear them like that myself. As Paul said, screen shots and photos of the real deal are the only valid references for true accuracy. It's easy to get a tainted picture of what looks "right" by looking at too many replicas. But this only serves to add to the problem. Awesome hero costume mate. You'l be cleared in no time with that!
  20. They should be plastic. Talk to John Danter, TM or any of the CFO guys and they should be able to hook you up a pair. Maybe ATA makes those too, I'm not sure.
  21. Not that I'm aware of off the top of my head.
