  1. Hey Troopers, So I participated in a photo shoot for fun that used smoke bombs. As a warning to all TKs and other white armor wearers, smoke bombs are not friendly with ABS at all. The pigment in the smoke bombs deposited into my plastic in such a way that required 220 grit sandpaper to remove it! And the pigment ended up on every piece of my armor. Gah!!! This kit in particular is going to be converted to a Sandy in a few short weeks, but I need it clean and white for an upcoming high-profile troop. I would have welcomed the yellow damage that occurred with the smoke bombs, but I need this kit clean. Ah well. The pics turned out pretty cool, so at least I have that. These are just a few pics from the shoot. There is some nice slow-mo high def video of things as well (upcoming in a few weeks).

  2. No such luck. They have a load of abs paste behind them. A lot of cutting and dremel sanding ahead. But hey, this close to my dream, I'm not stopping now!

  4. No worries. The hardest part right now will be changing the armor to butt joints and cover strips. Everything else is straight forward. Thanks for the help. Cheers!

  5. Thanks They will be glued once the ab armor snaps are installed. Just installed loose for now so I could insure they hang just below the belt. As a side note. I think I've decided to build straight to Centurion status. It will take me a little longer, but I didn't want to do something now, then have to adjust it later. I know I have to go for Basic approval first, but can I skip EIB and go straight for Centurion? Thanks

  7. New day, new try... I glued parts of the strapping because even though I've trusty magnets it was too wonky. So glued the shoulder strap and the biceps-forearme connection to the biceps. I can adjust the length size of the gap by moving the magnet at the forearm. Also glued a snap to the forearm and fixed an elastic at the biceps. Wouldn't belive it but such a huge difference (Thanks @troopermaster for insisting on that...). From my point of view this the best I've seen the last days. I noticed that arms are always in motion so the gaps are varying. It looks okay one moment and two steps later it's stuck on a wrinkel of the undersuit or the gloves and looks total crap. What I didn't do so far was cutting the shoulderbells like @TheSwede recommended. I paid close attention to the behavior of my shoulderbells and they don't pinch me in the side or get distracting entangled with my chest or back. It bothers me more that they are pushed outwards on top. Shouldn't they tilt more inward? Are the bells too narrow? Elastic too weak? Any suggestions on how to improve that issue?

  11. Looking great, Ryan!! Just a tiny dressing issue that might get flagged - the rear closure of your right leg; If you have another rear photo with this aligned it might avoid delays. ;-) Also, I believe you’ll need a picture showing the inside of your thigh ammo pack fixings. Best of luck - can’t see you having many issues for Centurion!! :-) Dan

  12. Nice progress, James. :-) If I may, your ears a currently a little thick. Compared with screen used, you could roughly half the thickness of the discs. As you have a second pair, I’d suggest trying something a little like this; Looking closely at the photos, it looks like there are mould lines where I’ve marked the red lines on the discs. This will roughly follow through on the curved sections, too. I’d agree with Frank that the brow is a little low compared with the majority of stunt helmets*. Do you have a couple of shots from side-on to see how the face is aligned with the back&cap? * https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/46285-early-2019-crl-update-change-requests/ (brow height info and references) Best wishes Dan

  14. Yeah, it looks like the original owner shimmed the front much wider, almost 2in. I'm working up the guts to cut that off and size them back down. It's so weird that almost all the rest of the armor is fine, but the thigh pieces, they went crazy on.

  15. Got my resin parts outside of the coverstrips cleaned up. Decided to do some work on the thermal detonator cover. If you are getting an 850 kit, you have to cut out the center of the oval part or it will not sit flush. I cut it out, and Im going to cover the hole on the inside with a scrap peice of abs. I also sanded the top of the oval to flatten it, and filed some groves on the top and bottom so it looks a little more detailed like the R1 det. I also cut out the hole at the end of the buttons. 16. Great work, just watch the angle of your ab plate looks a little slanted. Apart from that I don't see anything that should hold you up for basic approval. Looking forward to see you post your TKID????? good luck

  17. Starting with cleaning up and smoothing out the resin parts. Casts were good only a few minor bubbles but nothing extreme. Just need to sand down the 3d print lines on the casts. Some of the chsnnels on the cover strips need a bit of cleaning up, but nothing a set of needle files will take care of. Going to hit the sander later to clean up the backs and get them even. 18. Troop #16 - 22 June 2019 - Heros And Villians Hemel Hempstead (approx 4 hours in armour) So I've not trooped in *checks watch* 7 months but I was out today with Gary as Batman (part of our Reel Icons program). My wife came along to spot us, she's not a legion member but we have an associate member scheme that allows partners/close family to join us and help out by spotting. Not a huge fancy troop but we were busy and the time went quickly. Lots of small kids today, more than I am used to and I may have stepped on a few! Not overly a lot to report but it was an enjoyable troop and a nice ease back in after a busy few months for me.

  20. Hey Adi looking good, forearms too. Just be aware the cover strips may get snagged on things because they're not flush with the armor, other than that you look great The only other adjustment I see needing is the placement of arm sections. From the front and back views it appears your right arm armor is considerably longer than the left. If you have a fabric tape measure start at the very tip of the shoulder bell and measure to the wrist end. Note the lower end of each section then compare arms. Afterwards make adjustments as needed. The goal is to have a uniformed look between sides. Keep up the great work as usual

Besides my birthday, it also seems to be that awesome time in the North East of the U.S. where everything gets warm enough to finally start having fun without getting overly hot. Cookouts, long hikes, and best of all lots more trooping! There seems to be something going on every weekend, or more. I hope everyone out there is having lots of fun being bad guys doing good We have some really exciting things being shown off in this newsletter edition. With Unquestioned Loyalty Sarah Bailey TK-20466 "Alay" Detachment Leader NEW CRL UPDATES AND MODEL ANNOUNCEMENTS! Okay Troopers (and future Troopers), If you have kept up on recent events here, you are aware that the updated changes in the CRLs for ANH Stunt, ANH Hero, ESB and ROTJ will take effect on June 1st. We will also be including new models! (See below) We understand that many of you may have started your build before that date, and in order to avoid confusion and possibly causing you to have to make changes, we are allowing those in that scenario to adhere to the existing CRL guidelines. There are some conditions, though: 1. You must have started (and documented) your build here on the FISD prior to June 1st. 2. You will have until September 1st (approximately 90 days) of this year to submit for Expert Infantry and then Centurion if you opt to go for higher levels with that particular set of armor. 3. We took into consideration that an average set of armor takes approximately 3 months (or less) to build and that "life happens", but if you find that it will be taking longer than the 90 days, you will be required to contact the D.O. staff if you are aiming for EI or Centurion and explain your situation. After that date, you will be required to follow the requirements as per the updated CRL. If you have already started your build and would like to include the new updates, you are more than welcome (and encouraged) to do so. If you have met the above guidelines and would like to use the existing CRL, we suggest that you print a copy before June 1st, as these will not be available to view on the 501st site after that. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any member of the D.O. Staff. Since we are updating the requirements, as mentioned we will also be adding new CRL models for each costume as they take effect, which will include side views as well as front and back.*** On behalf of the entire Staff, I would like to congratulate those who were chosen to have this honor: 1. With Unquestioned Loyalty Preston Christman TK-91488 "Pretzel" PRO Lead - Attaché Ambassador So what exactly are EIB (Expert Infantry Badge) and Centurion levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. EIB https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/ Centurion https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/ Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just ask away here on the forum. As many of you are aware, the FISD is currently in our March to 1000 program. Our goal is to reach the one thousand mark of Troopers who have earned their Expert Infantry Badge, and although we are well on our way to this goal and have just reached the 913 mark! The amount of approved submissions is increasing (over 80 this year alone) thanks to the dedication of those willing to go the "extra mile" toward screen accuracy. Here is a brief description of EIB as written by Paul (Daetrin), our founder: "Expert Infantryman status is not required for members of this detachment. It should be viewed as an optional set of requirements for those who wish to take the accuracy of their costumes to the next level, and be recognized accordingly. We're a costuming club - think of it as an award for costuming excellence and you get the picture. The requirements will not replace or supersede 501st standards, but only serve as an inspiration for the level of accuracy that can be achieved. The standards are meant to be high but achievable..." Besides the added pride you will have in your armor, those reaching this level can purchase exclusive EIB gear (patches, decals, coins etc.) and get a free certificate for your accomplishment. If you are interested or would like more information about the program head here that will help. You can also contact myself "Pretzel" or any Imperial Attaché, and we will be more than happy to assist you! Greetings, troopers! I am very excited to announce several upcoming merchandise runs for our detachment. First off, we are working on an all new challenge coin run! 28. Yes it is. The ROTJ armour was made more simple compared to the complex ANH armour. Overlap joints, moulded ab buttons, straps glued, belt riveted, knees riveted, shoulder straps riveted - everything is much easier to assemble on the ROTJ.

  31. This has been pointed out to me on another thread I started about inconsistencies in the CRL. <br><br> Rivets in the Shoulder Straps<br><br> For basic 501st approval the CRL clearly states that the shoulder straps may be riveted. If someone was denied by their GML, then their GML has not read the CRL. However if the person is applying for Expert Infantry the CRL is wrong but this will not stop someone from getting a costume approved.

  32. I rivet them on as they should be and as they were done for production. They are white rivets on white straps attached to white armour and are only 4mm wide. It's hardly surprising you cannot see them on screen. If they were 4 inches you'd still have problems seeing them on screen.... LOL Most straps are hidden by the helmets sitting over them. It was filmed on film, not a digital HD, 4K bluray etc so the chances are that they had the 6 foot rule whilst filming back then which says if you cannot see it from 6 foot away don't worry about it......
