  1. I recently received my AM 2.0 ANH Stunt BBB, this build thread is going to help me a lot. I am definitely going to be referencing this during my build!

  2. Well crap I just realized I posted the question to Dave and not to Ted; however, I think my question was valid to the both of you and you both have answered so I guess its all good. Ok so lets get some updated pics guys and get y'all approved. We need more ROTKs out there. On a side note, I am thinking of doing a Rogue One racing shirt or T-shirt or hockey jersey so be looking for a feeler thread in the Rogue One section at some point. Ted I would like to see the shoulder bridges and the changes you made. I will be doing my first pour for the rubber shoulder straps tonight. Be well brothers and happy new year.

  3. Well, the button paint is literally not dry on my WTF TK and look what arrived on my doorstep today! My first build (WTF) was definitely a learning experience. I had to make numerous modifications to the armor to fit my 6’1” , 200 lb frame. Everything finally turned out well. However, I really wanted something that would fit me better. So, I ordered an AM 2.0 kit last week and it arrived today! I must say, this kit is REALLY nice. The packaging was impeccable as you AM builders know. I spent some time comparing parts to my WTF kit and I really think it’s going to fit me well. After playing with parts for a bit, I decided to jump right in, and get started on the forearms. Here we go again! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. Good luck with your EIB. You are motivating me to get mine done too. I’m just waiting on some parts.

  5. Whoops, I should have been more descriptive! I do plan on gluing all the snaps in with nylon webbing, as you describe. The ABS template pictured above is just to help me make all those little nylon bits with the right dimensions/snap placement. Sorry for the confusion!

  6. I will probably get a lot of flak for this, but I feel the need to offer yet another suggestion, Brendan. Using ABS plates for mounting snaps to your armor can be tricky. ABS is flat, but many of the areas you will be mounting them to are curved. Unless you heat up the plates and conform them to the shape of the area you are gluing it to you will have gaps, and E-6000 (being a very viscous glue) will seep out of those gaps, possibly making it not as secure. However, if you mount the snaps to nylon they will conform to the shape of whatever part you are adhering them to. Just my two credit's worth.

  7. Thanks, guys! Great ideas. Tweezers did the trick for me perfectly. Man, being back at work after the holidays really slows one's progress. The Emperor's gonna be displeased. I have managed to make sure I get at least a small amount done each day, though. The biceps finished drying and are now complete. Woohoo! After that, I got the shoulder bells, chestplate and backplate cut out, trimmed and sanded. And the collection so far: Next, I'm gonna start on some strapping for these pieces, so I can get a feel for it before doing the ab section. I really like how Scimitar did his strapping, so I've been using his build thread as a model for my game plan. You can see it all here: Today, after spending an embarrassingly long time trying to untangle the spaghetti ball of velcro strapping and nylon webbing I had thoughtlessly stored together in a plastic bag, I measured and cut out a template for the male snap pieces that will be glued inside the armour, as modelled in Scimitar's build. That's as far as I've gotten for now. Next I'll start hammering snaps into nylon and test-fitting. :-)

  8. Well luckily you had the first kit to practice on. You already know there seems to be a technique to putting everything together, and don't have to worry about your first few pieces being odd since the learning curve has already been taken. I used Amazing Goop on my build and found it works great. Setup time is about a few hours or so to be able to work with it again, and it rubs off the exposed areas very easy. If I were you I wouldn't use an accelerator like Zip kicker on your first build, but that's just me. Take your time with this. You should feel rushed as your goal is months away. But like I said use those around you that are 501st approved TKs. or that have approved costumes. Also, Get to know whoever your GML is, that is the person that will have final say on your approval after all. This place is so great for finding ways to fix things, or getting the "pre-approval", but that GML has the last word for basic.

  9. hahaha!!! The best part of so many builds are the mistakes we all share! I cringe when I remember what I did to the returns on my very first kidney, but have left everything up to see how ugly mistakes can become... and how to recover from them without leaping from the rooftop. (Thanks to all here at the FISD for that, of course!!!) So keep your mistakes out there! And you're doing an amazing job on this build. Go, go, go!

  10. Thanks for the feedback and encouragement! In response to what you said Gree, I am shooting for L3 (centurion) so any insight with regards to that process going forward is much appreciated! I went ahead and moved onto the biceps. So far I'm really enjoying working with this kit. Once again this is an MTK kit. I've purchased several other items in advance from Trooperbay.com. I've had nothing but good experiences thus far... The ABS is much thicker than the previous eBay kit, so I've had to modify my techniques. The ABS doesn't snap off as easily, so I'm scoring, bending, then scoring the "bend" mark on the inside of the cut. It's more time consuming but my lines are coming out wonderfully. Here are a few pictures. I've decided I'm going to keep trimming pieces before starting to assemble anything. I used Zap-a-Gap and Zip Kicker on the first kit. I'm not sure if I'm going to be using E6000 on this build or not. Since I'm shooting for centurion, I'd like to make it as pristine as possible and not have any glue-runs like I have previously.

  11. So my advice would be this, The only thing with the CRL that has anything to do with return edge is the wrist end of the forearms, there should not be any. Every other return edge on your costume is up to you and fitment. Take as little off as possible until you find the right fit. you can always take more off, cant always put more on (or if you can its a lot of work). Your forearm armor looks fine to me to be honest. both mine are different, on more round than the other. But if its something that really bothers you, you can do a hot water bath (I strongly advise staying away from the heat gun unless your a pro with it). One thing I would suggest before setting anything though, is that when testing for fitment, first figure out how you are going to put you gloves on. Are you going to put the arms on first, then try and slide your gloves down the armor, or are you going to put your gloves on first and squeeze them through the forearm. Are you going level 3 where the hand guard has to be affixed to the glove? all these answers will help with what you want the fit to look like. Also, when working on fitment, never try and find fitment without your body suit on (whether that be under armor or an off brand) because that will also change the sizing. Good luck, welcome again, and keep the questions coming. I have no doubt you will hit your goal. Also, you stated a friend was in the 501st, get with them and find out when the next armor party is. Take your kit with you and there should be several people that with a lot of experience that can help you with hands on stuff.

  12. Eek, not sure where I got the colors I was looking for but my notes do not match that one- which is what I think I thought I was following Thanks, updating my notes now and trading in my black and white while I check again for the blue.

  15. Me again! I've made a few tweaks and would love some feedback. Since my last post, I angled the shoulders inwards, and tried to level out the lopsided chest piece over the abdomen. I also made the thigh strapping. So here is my first post with a full suit! For the back, I just noticed that my left bicep strap ran up and over the top of the bicep. I'll see about making sure that stays in place somehow. I also see that my forearms aren't very symmetrical when on my arms. I'll see why next time I put it on. I have the white elastic for the shoulder straps, just haven't put that on yet. The sides. Though this isn't a submission, I thought I would just do the main submission photos to help anyone point out stuff. The cool pose. And the sexy pose. Thanks for any feedback!

  16. It happens. You are on yet another boring gate guard detail and are trying to relax with a cup of brew. You throw on the latest pod races on the closed circuit screens (hey, it's not like anyone is sneaking on a secret battle station, right?) put your feet up on the desk, lean back and start catching up on the latest FISD news on your data pad. Ah...the good life. Then out of nowhere, you can't get to the forums - it's like they are down. What gives? Did Lord Vader find out you piping pod racing again? Yeesh, doesn't he have something better to do, like track down rebels or something? Then again, maybe he doesn't. A cold bead of sweat starts rolling down your forehead.... Fear not - it's all good! The 501st Legion's webmasters are just trying to integrate the FISD forums with the Legion membership database and from time to time the forum servers are bounced. So it's not you at all, my good trooper! Wait, why are they doing this you ask? Ah...well you know how it's nearing election time and we get all kinds of requests to validate detachment membership, right? And each year it's a monumental task to try to get everything sync'd between the FISD servers and the Legion database, right? Well, your support request prayers have been answered! When the LWM team has completed their work, the Legion's database can simply pull membership data from FISD and automatically update membership requests. How cool is that? Surely worth a few server bounces, right? Huge thanks to the LWMs, especially Cari, for making this possible. Cheers Cari!

  18. Using scrap ABS is good for getting in to areas that has glue residue, you will find after some use the ABS gets blunt, just cut to a point and continue. For larger areas I just rub with my thumb.

  19. Hello again, I grey prime major components leaving out the central capacitors. I then followed up with flat black. As for the ceramic tube, I followed up with semigloss to seal in the orangey color with brass highlights. This also adds shine and reflectivity to it. To ensure maximum adhesion for gluing, I masked away those parts of the cylinders that will have end caps glued overtop. I also thickened the 'wings' with platicard. Bottom plate will remain a bit thick so to accommodate my chosen and scratch-built resisters. 10BA screws still need to be installed and putting together of the resistor wirings and sleeves. Capacitors I will try to bundle and glue in place some how then black wash them...to be continued [emoji38] Sent from my SM-G390W using Tapatalk

  20. Haha. Don't let Matt scare you - he has no patience and overreacts all the time. That said, the thighs are not as straight forward as the arms. If you think you need to trim the tops for height - do that the best you can before fully fitting them for width. And be sure to leave a little room in the thighs - it is better to have a little extra space (you can always adding padding) than having them too small. I've seen a lot of people undersize their thighs. Also, the right thigh front coverstrip ridge is slightly curved. I found gluing half (lower or upper) of the coverstrip on first then forcing the other half into place later (and holding with good clamps) worked - forces the coverstrip to follow the curved return edge / seam. If that makes sense. Arms look very nice! Great work, trooper!!

  23. Well done Andrew. I agree with the suggestions about the strapping. But that’s not a big deal.

  24. Looking good Andrew. Yes, as suggested, the strapping is key. Sometimes takes a few fittings and trials to get the fit right, especially for trooping.

  25. As a leathercrafter, you never know what you will create since all customers have their different orders, wants and needs. I recently closed my shop due to construction work in the store area, so nowadays it´s crafting in the home instead and on a smaller scale. However, anything is possible still and here are a few examples of previous creations. I also create jewelry in silver, bronze, titanium, pearls, bones etc and specifically and very often, the Norse often seen Kingslink worn a lot by Viking reenactors. A note for the leather: All leather and skin used in the crafts are always from a Vegetable tanned source. No chrome products is, will or have ever been used and that is a very high importance for me. I only use Vegetable tanned materials, everything is hand crafted from the ground up and hand stitched, colored, engraved and made worn. So... as said...some mixed items coming. Starting with a hello from me at Birka 2018 A custom commission for a fantasy larp. Customer wanted a very specific setup with a light battle-worn patina and a crest their group uses. The armor is a two item setup with the Chest and Belt combination. The client had a Thors Hammer, but nothing else. We opted to make him a set of 925 Sterling silver Wolf´s heads clasping rings attached through a twisted silver bar that went through the hammer and held everything in place on the 65 cm long chain. The following picture is the same weave but on a thinner scale and in copper. All these rings where created by hand one at the time, then hand sawed and mounted. Some light engraving for a restaurant to put the customers check´s and credit cards in. And to close with, the old Cosplay pics from Gamex when we did a job for EA / Bioware for Dragon Age Inquisition. Here i used an old Chest armor etc i had at home and a bud´s sword , but we only had 14 days to make the stuff so, sometimes a shortcut is needed haha. Keyword to make it work when in a rush. Layers layers layers.

  26. I built my Doopys blaster this past week. I decided to make a few mods, but not go crazy in this one. I definitely think another, more derailed, blaster build is in my future. Metal thumb screws, metal site pin, drilled out barrel tip. Modded parts prior to painting. My rag tag paint area. I’m using Rustoleum satin black. Here is the finished product. I’m going to keep the blaster looking new for now, to match my new armor. I’m sure there will be some weathering in my future. Cheers! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  27. I spent some time working on the bucket today. Here I am getting everything masked off in preparation of interior coating. I applied three liberal coats of bed liner spray. Fitting the lenses as one piece. I will bolt these in with the side bucket bolts. Bucket bolted together and ready to trim the ears. Cheers! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
